Founders Hall 프로젝트는 고강도의 E-등급 CLT(교차 적층 목재) 패널을 처음으로 적용한 건물로, 기계, 전기, 배관(MEP) 관통부 및 연결부에 대한 철저한 사전 계획을 통해 각각 고유한 설계 특성을 갖고 제작되었습니다.
워싱턴 대학교 포스터 경영대학(Foster School of Business)의 최신 건물인 Founders Hall은 기존의 PACCAR Hall과 Dempsey Hall을 보완하기 위해 강의실, 프로그램 사무실, 연구 센터, 경력 개발 서비스 사무실, 교류 공간, 이벤트 공간, 편의 공간 등을 포함하고 있습니다. 이 건물은 학교가 우수한 인재를 유치하려는 목표를 지원할 뿐 아니라, 변화하는 요구에 유연하게 대응할 수 있는 높은 상호작용성을 지닌 사회적 공간을 창출하는 데 중점을 두고 설계되었습니다.
포스터 경영대학을 구성하는 다섯 개 건물 중 하나로서, 연면적 85,000제곱피트(약 7,900㎡), 5층 규모의 이 다목적 시설은 워싱턴 대학교(UW) 캠퍼스 내 최초로 CLT를 도입한 건물입니다.
노출된 CLT 천장과 건물 중심에 자리 잡은 매스 팀버(대형 목재) 계단은 목재 구조의 아름다움과 자연 친화적 설계(biophilic design)의 이점을 잘 보여줍니다. 매스 팀버의 사용은 2030년까지 탄소 배출량을 45% 감축하겠다는 대학교의 목표와도 부합하며, 이는 건축 자재와 시공 과정에서 발생하는 내재된 탄소(embodied carbon)를 근본적으로 줄이기 위한 글로벌 노력에 참여 중인 Carbon Leadership Forum의 목표와도 일치합니다.

The Founders Hall project was the first building to feature high-strength E-Grade CLT panels, each produced with unique design characteristics resulting from detailed pre-planning of MEP penetrations and connections.
As the newest addition to the Foster School of Business, Founders Hall includes classrooms, program offices, research centers, career services offices, interaction spaces, event spaces, and amenity spaces to augment PACCAR and Dempsey Halls. In addition to supporting the school’s goal of attracting the best and brightest, the design intent was rooted in creating highly interactive social spaces that are flexible and adaptable to meet the evolving needs of the Foster School of Business.
As one of five buildings that comprises the business school, the 85,000-square-foot, five-story multi-use facility was the first building on the UW campus to incorporate cross-laminated timber (CLT), revealing a heavy timber structural system as part of the building expression.
Exposed CLT ceilings and a prominently placed mass timber staircase at the heart of the building further showcase mass timber’s inherent beauty and the biophilic benefits of wood-based design. The use of mass timber was a nod to the University’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030, and in line with the goals of the University’s Carbon Leadership Forum, a participant in the global effort to radically reduce the embodied carbon in building materials and construction.
